Q. What is the purpose of ngen?
A. ngen is a community/network that provides professional development opportunities for young media industry professionals. Our online community (this website) helps you network with others in a relationship driven industry. Connect with your peers - view example member profile and register.
Q. What does ngen stand for?
A. Next generation (pronounced ‘engine’). The name reflects the future of forward thinking within the media industry, which is in a constant state of movement, much like an engine.
Q. Why was ngen launched?
A. Members of the MFA Executive recognised the need to create a community, which would inspire the development of young media specialists through a range of informative, exciting and inspiring forums. It was also important to provide these individuals with a voice in the industry and to create an opportunity for them to shine.
Q. To be an ngen member, you have to have less than 5 years' experience in the industry, what is the definition of industry?
A. The industry is anything related to communications, i.e., an Advertising agency, Ad Media Agency, PR, Media Owner/Publisher.
Q. What are the benefits of membership?
A. Members have access to all ngen events including workshops, inspiring presentations, social events, outdoor activities, to win prizes and much more – all at NO COST to you! You will also receive Adnews magazine at your office for free (value of $99 a year) this will happen within a month of registering to be an ngen member.
Q. How do I RSVP for an event?
A. Members will be notified of relevant events coming up and asked to register interest to attend. Once registrations close, we will confirm whether your placement was successful. See what events are coming up and register your interest.
Q. What are the size of the workshops?
A. Our workshops are usually 50 participants. This provides more opportunities for our community to learn and develop. ngen is about learning and developing but also about connecting with people in the industry.
Q. How long do the workshops go for?
A. ngen workshops are no longer than 1/2 day. We are aware that you are all busy individuals.
Q. Who funds the program?
A. ngen is an initiative of the Media Federation of Australia (MFA), a not-for-profit organisation representing media agencies in Australia. All ngen activities are funded by the MFA, ngen member companies and our partners.
Q. Who can become a member?
A. If you work for one of our member companies and have less than 5 years’ experience in the industry, then you can register – for free! Find out who our publisher member companies are. Find out who our agency member companies are.

Q. What if the company I work for is not an MFA member?
A. ngen is financed by MFA member subscriptions and ngen Media Owner/publisher Members. If you don’t work for an MFA member agency then unfortunately you’re not eligible to participate.
Q. Do I have to pay anything to become a member of ngen?
A. No, ngen is fully funded by MFA member subscriptions and ngen Media Owner/publisher members.
Q. Will ngen be open to other industries in the communications field?
A. Currently our priority is to maintain a strong and successful program of activities to benefit our members.
Q. Am I guaranteed a position to attend every ngen event?
A. ngen strives to provide its members with access to all our activities. However if there is a need to restrict too many numbers to a particular event we will try to reschedule another time so everyone has the opportunity to attend and participate.
Q. How does the ngen committee work?
A. The ngen committee is made up of a group of individuals from MFA member agencies and ngen Media Owner Members that recognise the core needs of the ngen community. It is the committee’s responsibility to help shape the program and bring great initiatives into fruition. Members of ngen are always welcome to offer feedback to the committee representatives for consideration.
Q. What do I have to do if I want to get more actively involved in ngen?
A. Communication is a key factor to the success of ngen and contributions from its members are vital. If you want to be more involved and run a project yourself, just contact us and send the details. We can either support you in your plans or inform members what you are doing.
